General

What motion capture technologies do you offer?

We develop full-body and fingers wearable motion capture equipment consisting of inertial measurement units (IMU). IMUs measure the orientation, acceleration and magnetic heading of each skeletal segment in the body. These technologies can be hybridized with face tracking and other optical motion capture technologies.

How do NANSENSE motion capture systems capture body, fingers and face motion capture data?

NANSENSE motion capture systems form a network of inertial measurement units (IMUs) measuring the orientation and acceleration of each skeletal segment in the body. Rotations are used to animate the skeleton through forward kinematics (FK) and data is processed using inverse kinematics (IK).

Can Studio process real-time motion capture data?

Studio will process motion capture data in real-time. The result can be visualized on a customizable mannequin or a character asset of your choosing. Studio also includes tools for editing and post-processing motion capture data.

What is the recommended capture environment?

NANSENSE motion capture equipment can be used anywhere, including in the comfort of your own home. The capture environment should be large enough for the actor to move freely. Avoid heavily magnetic environments for better results.

Are your systems environment agnostic?

NANSENSE motion capture equipment is portable and does not require installation in a dedicated capture volume. All that is required is an actor, a router and a computer. Data can also be captured using the onboard logger.

How should the system be worn?

NANSENSE motion capture equipment is both comfortable and easy to put on. The clothing is made out of stretchy performance fabrics. To put the suit on, simply step inside the one-piece suit and zip it up.

How should the system be washed?

The system can be washed only after removing all the electronics from the suit and gloves. Wash the clothing in the washing machine on a cold cycle and let it air dry. Make sure the clothing is completely dry before adding the electronics.

What is the maximum size of NANSENSE capture volume?

The capture volume is unlimited provided that the wireless signal can reach the hub antenna. It is also possible to record data without a wireless connection using the built-in logger. This approach makes the capture volume unlimited.

How does wireless work?

The wireless interface operates on the 2.4GHz or 5.0GHz band with a range between 150 feet (45 meters) indoors and 300 feet (90 meters) outdoors. The wireless range can be limited by local conditions such as physical obstructions and radio interference.

Is it possible to use a NANSENSE system without a computer?

The wearable hub features a logger that can store large amounts of raw data. Data is later extracted from the hardware through the hub's web interface and is processed inside Studio.

Are the suits and gloves available in different sizes?

The full-body suit and gloves come in small, medium and large. Custom sizing is available on request.

Can I customize my clothing?

Custom tailoring is available on request at an additional fee. Depending on complexity, custom tailoring may affect delivery time.

How long does it take to put on the system?

It takes approximately one minute to put on the system and one minute for it to boot up. It may take longer depending on the configuration of the system.

Motion Capture

What motion can I capture?

NANSENSE systems capture all types of motion ranging from fine movements to rapid swings. The software can detect human locomotion including sitting, standing, walking, running, jumping and height tracking.

Can you I capture running and jumping?

NANSENSE systems can capture both running and jumping. The software will determine the velocity, momentum and trajectory of the jump by combining the physics engine with acceleration data.

How does the system handle stairs, climbing and walking on uneven surfaces?

NANSENSE systems can track vertical displacement and interpret floor plane changes.

Do you support props?

Yes. Props can be driven by additional sensors or external trackers. Data is recorded in tandem with the motion capture system.

Can I motion capture multiple actors at the same time?

You can capture multiple actors at the same time. There is no set limit to the number of actors you can capture simultaneously. Capturing many actors will require additional computing resources.

Is it possible to motion capture outdoors?

NANSENSE systems can be used indoors and outdoors.

Can you track fingers without the body?

You can track fingers without the body.

How long does it take to ship a system?

Orders will be shipped within two weeks of being placed.

Support & Upgrades

I received my system. What's next?

Every system is shipped with licensing information. Using the licensing information, you can access Docs, which contains detailed documentation, software releases, starting guides, tutorials and plugins. Your first step is to download the software and follow the Start Guide to record your first motion capture take.

What about warranty and support?

Every system comes standard with a one-year warranty and support period.

I broke my system. What now?

Every part is serviceable. Ship the system back and we will fix it for free if the fault is covered under warranty. If not, we will simply charge you for the broken components.

Can I upgrade my system?

You can always upgrade your system to add more sensors. To upgrade, you have to cover the shipping costs and the price difference.

Licensing

When does my license expire?

Licenses expire every two years. You can continue to use your software and receive updates after the initial one-year support period. You can contact us to renew your license for free or purchase additional support.

Can I use the same license on multiple machines?
